Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
